Lafitte's storm protection is no better than pre-Katrina. Mayor Tim Kerner said the levees are inadequate and some areas have no levee protection at all.

This after years of promises of 100 year stom protection.

The Army Corps of Engineers right now is construction a floodwall along Leo Kerner Highway. But, Lafitte is outside the flood protection levee.

"The Corps left us out," said Kerner.

Kerner said if a storm were to hit the town, it would have to rely on sandbags or the large baskets to keep the water at bay.

Kerner said after Katrina he was told the town would get 16 foot levees.

That hasn't happen.

Kerner said however a 20 million dollar levee project will soon be under way that should prevent tidal flooding.

According to Kerner the levees will stand at about 7 feet.

Lafitte received heavy flooding from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike three years ago.

According to Kerner the 7 foot levees would've prevented that flooding.
