Tropical Storm Katia is gaining strength and making its way across the Atlantic Ocean.As of the 10 a.m. Tuesday advisory, the center of the storm was located near latitude 12.3 N and longitude 33.4 W, moving at 18 mph to the WNW. Katia's general direction is expected to continue over the next 48 hours.
Max sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts.
Tropical Storm Katia is expected to be near hurricane intensity by late Wednesday or early Thursday.
