From the Carolinas to Cape Cod, Hurricane Irene is threatening potentially 55 million peole living on the East Coast.

Hurricane Irene is expected to be the strongest storm to strike the East coast in 7 years.

"Hopefully we can be the calm in the storm, and also be the strength in the storm."

Kay Wilkins with the Southeast Louisiana chapter of the American Red Cross said they've sent two teams of volunteers in emergency response trucks.

"Where those teams wind up will depend on where Irene hits, and where the need is," Wilkins said.

She said they are prepared with Emergency supplies, food, and shelter for however long they need to be out there.

"We will work together to find ways to be efficient, be effective, and also be that shoulder they can lean on," Wilkins said.
