NEW ORLEANS—
Mardi Gras parades kicked off as usual very early this year, with Zulu rolling at 8:00 am. Members were up at the crack of dawn, packing up their floats at the Superdome before heading out to Jackson and Claiborne. Despite the wet weather, people lined the streets hoping for a coveted golden coconut.Consuella McKinley tells us she "hasn't seen Zulu in about 17 years, so this one's very much worth it!"
John West is participating this year. He describes what he thinks it'll be like. "I feel like on top of the world, when I see that big crowd out there, everyone having fun and enjoying themselves. I just think its going to be a great time."
The theme of this year's parade is Hollywood, so floats ranged from Spiderman to the Wizard of Oz. The Tramps, "Saint Aug" marching band and the other usual participants were all on hand as well.
